In the darkest month of the year what could be better than enjoying some nice mulled wine under the sparkling Christmas lights? Budapest’s Christmas Markets are often considered among the most beautiful Christmas markets in Europe, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. In 2019, the title of “The most beautiful Christmas market in Europe” was awarded to the “Advent Festival in front of the Basilica in Budapest.”

Budapest’s main Christmas Fair in Vörösmarty Square will be taking place from November 19 to December 31, 2021. This Christmas market is great if you are looking for unique, locally made gifts, and also if you want to eat and drink some Hungarian specialties. You will find everything here for the holidays: ceramics, gingerbread, fluffy designer caps and scarves and special wooden ornaments. Besides the countless food stalls and craft vendors, you can enjoy free concerts by various Hungarian bands every day.

Many visitors vote for the Christmas market in front of the St Stephen’s Basilica as their favorite one. Advent Feast at the Basilica will open on 19th November 2021 and you can visit it until 1st January 2022. The gorgeous Christmas tree in the middle of the square offers a breathtaking spectacle with the magnificent church in the background. A custom-designed light screening show makes this location so special which is displayed on the facade of St Stephen’s.  There are two kinds of shows: a “traditional” one and a 3D one for which you can buy your 3D glasses at any vendor of the market.

They pay special attention to the safety. In order to ensure that visitors’ health is protected during the pre-holiday season, the fair is only accessible for immunity card holders in accordance with the effective law.
